Got on the water about 5:15 and started with topwaters. Got a couple small fish on LC Gunfish and a few more small ones on a Flappin shad. Topwater not really doing it for me so I went out looking for other stuff. Got a couple of decent 2-2.5s off a rockpile on a drop shot and a ton of dinks. Went over toward the dam and found a nice algae bloom to kill some of the visibility and got into some more dropshot fish, but all were small. The bite really slowed down around 9 am, so I went exploring with the sonar and was able to find two new structure items I was unaware of. One was big rock pile that stcks up about 6 feet off the bottom in the middle of nothing, the other was a steep channel break from 9 feet to 18 feet that was pretty nice looking, and also out in the midle of nothing. I'll have to go back and GPS those before I forget where they are. Picked up the jig and went over to the "new" pile and caught one just over 5, and then cranked it with a DD22 and got railed by one 3+. No more bites after that. I didn't try that channel break that I located, but I will soon.

Water was 71-74 degrees, no wind and VERY VERY clear. About 8-10 feet of visibility. Tons of coontail grass everywhere that the water is less than 10 or so feet. It is quite thick this year. I tossed the frog around some where it was close to the surface, but got no love.

Thanks for the report Travis. WHen does the frog bite turn on at HIgland if ever. I sure would like to get in on a good bite there. It's a fun lake to fish but seems to have gotten tough the last few times I've fished it.

I would think the frog bite should be coming around a little bit right now, and get better as the deeper grass reaches closer to the surface. I believe the stuff that is matting on the surface now is a little shallow for the fish on this lake. There is so much good deep structure in the form of breaks and channels that I think they are not shallow at all once the sun gets up with that real clear water, grass or not. If the lake holds to what it did last year, as summer goes on a good algae bloom should develop and reduce some of the visibilty, and that will help a lot. Last year the water went from what it looks like now to about 2 feet of vis later in the summer, and that made fishing a lot better. Let me know when you want to go out there, and I'll see about hooking up with you to go chuck some frogs and stuff.
