7659, Which would you buy? Triple trout or Hard Raptor?
Posted by Oliver, Sun Mar-12-06 07:42 PM
If you could only pick one of these baits, either the 22nd century triple trout, or the jerry rago hard raptor...which would you buy and why? I have friends who stick fish on the triple trout, but that raptor looks AWESOME. What do you think fellas? By the way, we had a club tournament at casitas, with NO swimbait fish to show at all. I threw the 10" stocker and hudd 12 for not even a follow. I did end up with a 5lb and 8lb fish today, on a friggin' jerkbait and dropshot of all things! thanks for your opinions...

I would definitely go w/ the hard raptor. I have both baits and realy think the raptor is a better choice. While both baits will undoubtedly catch fish, I think the raptor has a MUCH more realistic action(although realism isnt always what the fish want) and a much more realistic profile and paint job.

Raptor for sure! Awesome bait and worth the money.

When did you have a club tourney at Casitas? What club are you part of? I know there were like 3 or 4 other clubs there the whole weekend. I was there with my club (Castaic Bass Club) on Sunday and stuck 2 swimbait fish on Hudds and missed another one in my first 3 casts! it was crazy action. I won our club tourney with 23.98Lbs. Also got bit on the 10" Stocker Trout Friday while I was prefishing.

I am not sure on the Raptor but I do like the way the Triple Trout swims, even though I haven't got bit on it yet.

I'm with the California Bass Contenders, we fished it sat/sun. Prefishing on friday was insane, everyone was on fish. Sat came along and alot of the guys struggled including myself. I caught 3 fish in the first half hour on sat, then not a bite the rest of the day which I spent a lot of time throwing the swimbait. I ended up winning our club tournament with like 25 pounds or so with a 18lb sack on sunday so it turned out ok for me. Just wish I would have stuck one on a swimbait! None of our guys caught any swimbait fish that weekend.

In my opinion, the Triple Trout is much better than the Raptor. I tend to believe that the Raptor is more of a trolling bait than one meant to be cast. The Raptor undeniably looks much better than the Triple Trout and it has less wiggle. I've thrown both alot and the tally so far is about 20 bites to 1 in favor of the Triple Trout.

Double Trouble...
Have you been throwing them for the same amount of time or have you used the triple trout more often? Just curious as to how many more bites you've had in the same time frame.

Everyone thinks that if it is a Jerry Rago bait it is for trolling. You can troll any bait out there, but the Raptor is NOT A TROLLING BAIT. It was designed to be cast and retrieved, from the surface to the bottom and all point in between. Jerry catches more than half his big fish casting. The best trolling baits have lips.

If I had to pick between the Triple Trout and the Raptor, I'd be sad because I'd want both :)

On the reel, my guess is going to be a Trinidad 12. Should we have a reel guess contest? lol.

Yea, the TN12 was my first guess but the reel in the pic doesn't have the giant gearbox. Reel guess contest would've been fun--too bad he already posted what reel it is...

Thanks, it is a Shimano Conquest 400 with a livebait handle. I like the handle because you get a reel HA HA good feeling for what the bait is doing on the end of the line. I fish a lot by myself and when I am winding in my swimbait I get in a zone and concentrate on every move that bait makes. These no lip baits require more thought than a lipped bait. I also have the handle on my rod I deadstick with because you can pickup a lot of line in a hurry. I have hooked a few fish I might of missed without it.

I've been fishing the Triple longer so that obviously makes a difference. But I've been to DVL on numerous trips where I stuck with the Rago all day and my brother threw the Triple and he absolutely kicked my ass. It's weird because that Raptor looks 10 times better than the Triple Trout. I've also had a problem with my Raptor breaking. On a regular cast, I tossed it out and came back with half the bait missing. Note: Rago was great about replacing the bait. If I was into trolling, I think I would throw the Raptor more.

Man you guys are gonna make me buy both now! Haha guess it isn't so bad being broke...Now where the heck can I get my hands on a 10" Triple trout and a 10" Raptor?!
