1791, saltwater jigs for freshwater bass?
Posted by basser, Sun Nov-17-02 05:48 PM
I was looking through my gear today and I looked in my saltwater box and I saw some jigs or irons whatever you want to call them and I thought they catch calico bass why wont they catch large mouth so I grabed a Tady C because it was the lightest and painted it like a rainbow trout. I'm going to try it this weekend at san v. You probably think its over kill but it fells lighter than most swimbaits.I was wondering if any of you guys have tried it? I was also wondering what you guys think of it?
THANKS

I've tried it. It's been discussed a couple different times either in this forum or the freshwater forum. I got plenty of bites but they'd always either throw the hook out or not get hooked. The iron is so bulky and heavy that they have no problem throwing it out of their face. I've heard of one guy who fished Casitas for like a year throwing iron and he finally caught one fish after a year. Give it a try and post the results.

would'nt they throw the swimbaits with only one hook like the castaic easily to? Could'nt you gust put a 2/0 Gammie on there then they would get hooked alot easier cause the hooks that come on jigs are extremely dull. What kind of jig was it?
