Melones is a great lake. I've only been there once but have followed the fishing there over the years closely. It's a mix of spots, redeye, largemouth and I believe the occasional smallmouth. It's predominantly spots but it's not ruined by spots like other lakes are. There are still plenty of largemouth of all sizes up to 15+

In post spawn like right now, there should be a great topwater bite going and just a good bite in general. Mother lode lakes seem to fish better on low water and we didn't get a lot of rain this year.

The one time I went to Melones was in the fall. There were huge shad balls all over the place and I spooned over 100 fish on silver buddies. They were all small but it was completely addicting because you were bit on almost ever cast around the shad. If I was going right now I'd throw topwater, swimbaits, and reaction in general and just go blast a bunch of fish.
