Nothing for the most part. I don't think that adding a snap or split ring to a rubber bait adds any action.

If i'm using a slammer, I use a heavy snap just to get more slapping on the surface.

As far as the kind of snap, I use the Berkley Cross Lock (90 pound I think). I've never had one of those pop open but I have had the standard snap come open on me.
