I've had some (not much) success making really long casts and kind of slow-rolling swimbaits over deep water. If you aren't hitting the cover you won't get eaten. Slider type heads are the only way to do this in weeds. To figure out how fast to go, check out what the slowest retrieve is that will still make the tail kick.
