Hey guys, I fished the SB harbor this weekend for the first time. I used a 3inch swimbait that I picked up at harbor tackle. I am not sure what the name of the color was but it looked like an anchovy. Anyways, I just walked along the breakwater and fished for a few hours with no luck. I am almost positive that I was fishing in the wrong spot of the harbor but unfortunately, I knew no better. I am writing this post to see if you SB locals can help out a newbie by giving me some tips as to bait colors, sizes, leadheads, scents and of course fishing locations in the harbor. It is such a nice place to fish but it would be a lot nicer if I actually caught something. Any help would be great. Thanks a lot guys and good luck fishing.

You are definetly close! Try the beaches on both sides of Stearns Wharf. They can be very productive for Halibut as the water temp is definetly rising. You can also try Leadbetter Beach. It also can be a good spot for Halibut. As for baits...You got it right on the nose. Paul wouldnt stear you wrong. I dont know what kind of leadhead you use, but the assault darts by Big Hammer are awesome. 1/8 and 1/4 oz sizes combined with a very light test are perfect for inshore fishing. Along with Halibut, Big perch are common inshore with an occasional corbina. If you can get out in a Kayak or a Tube, the Harbor in the summertime is great for White Seabass and Sandies. Good luck brotha, maybe I will see you out there sometime. I hope this helps.

Keep at it, the harbor can switch on and off like a light. Sometimes I will go 2 3 or more trips without a bite, my best day was over 60 bass on 1 inch silver wormkings and 6lb test. Fun fun fun!

I have found that within 1 mile of the harbor each way, that the smaller plastics tend to get bit more often, both from the beach as well as on the water, so I tend to use 3 inch Hammers, in smelt/grunion/anchovie colors with 1/4 to 1/2 ounce ledheads. 3/4 oz kroks also can cover a great area.

Last night while grunion hunting, 4 times I saw halibut splash out of 4 inch whitewash into deeper water........ Too many weeds to fish where I was last night, but if the water were cleaner, it would have been wide open.
