I kicked out to the bait barge around 12noon and fished till 2:30. No one else out except three people pitching from the jetty.

Results:

5 barracuda
3 halibut, largest was 18inches
4 pacific mackerel. I'm still amazed at how much these fish fight!
4 jack smelt

Lures: 3inch bleeding mackerel with 1/4oz Fishco Jig Head
4 inch Channel Island Chovy with 3/8oz Jig Head

Reel: Spirex 2000, 6lb. P-Line
Rod: 6ft., Med-Light Action, Berkeley Series One

I'd appreciate any comments or suggestions from you members out there. I've only been tubin' for the last three months and would love some tips about lure choice, spots to fish in the harbor, etc. . I've discovered a lot by just reading related topics on the conference board. Thanks.

I'm still looking for my first legal halibut. Maybe tomorrow.

Try herring-salt smelly jelly on your swimbaits.
Try storm 3" shad colr curly tails- they are heavy for their
size and troll well on the bottom. Flatties really like them.
I have caught several keeper Flatties in the harbor, one by the bait receiver (22.5") but the two larger ones (25" and 26") were caught on the storm along the long Jetty abeam the harbor patrol building. If you have a sea Lion bugging you expect poorer results...

I'll most likely see you around one of these days...

Thanks for the tips Quietman. I'll give the Storm curly tails and Smelly Jelly a try. I'll also venture along that jetty that you mentioned in search of my first legal halibut.

I went out today around the bait barge and it was pretty slow, although I hear it was pretty good earlier in the morning. I fished from 10 to noon and only caught 4 pacific mackerel, a croaker and a jack smelt.

Thanks again,

Kanaka
