7624, Dana Harbor Report

I tubed the Dana Point Harbor from about 5pm till dark Friday. It was my first time ever in a float tube and I very much enjoyed myself. I launched from the baby beach and had three 10-12" sand bass in short order right at the drop-off line. I kicked over to the finger docks and then to the break-water and kicked and drifted and cast my way back. I got a few more hits, but no more catches. I was using mostly a 4" fishtrap in brown-bait color.
Beautiful evening to be on the water, I would have liked it even better if I had caught a few more fish...

Float tubing is very enjoy able even if you caught only caught a few fish. Try using a 3'' chartreuse, clear/ w red flake, or a rootbeer colored grub on a 1/4 ounce darter lead head. I always get more hits adding Pro-cure Calico Cocktail bait sauce. Cast your line near the pilings of the docks where the fish hide. I also think that the harbor has a Bait barge where tubers and kayakers get lots of croaker, bass, halibut, wsb, and barracuda. Just look for the best spots and get comfortable with harbor and you'll get more fish.
