Anyone had success fishing this beach from shore?

r u talking about the scout camp beach, in the harbor? i went there about a 2 years ago and saw mackeral hiting baitfish while i was kyaking.only about 15 feet from shore. But i dont know uif they allow fishing. by the way is this chuck watson

I worked the harbor side next to the pier a couple weeks ago.I was fly fishing and caught one very small spotted bay bass next to the kelp beds.My friend was tubing and said he could see some short halibut as he was walking out,about waste deep.I'm sure if I were bait fishing I would of caught something.The kelp beds are only about 30 to 50 yards out.

I often launch my kayak from the open ocean side. I like kayaking but I'm out there to fish not to paddle around. You might be able to catch a halibut or a small sand bass from the harbor side but you'll probably do better fishing the open side. I've pulled a few halbut drifts in there but no luck. I focus most my attention toward calico's so I havn't put much time in to that beach area. I've heard of people catching perch, corbina, yellowfin croaker, stripers, and halibut.There was a striper bite going on there about a month ago. You can catch corbina and yellowfin croaker on the harbor side too. Try stopping by or even just calling pauls bait in San Pedro. I think it's on Gaffy. They will be able to give you any information on shore fishing in that area.

Yes, read all this info on Cabrillo and me and my hubby went there this weekend. Before launching our infaltable, his first cast pulled up some devil looking fish, he put up horns when you touched him. Blonde looking in color. Next time on shore, he hooked up a 21" halibut, released of course. Does any one know if the legal is 22"? Unsure here. He pulled up a bass from shore too. From the boat, I finally have a "one that got away" story. Damn teeth on those halibut. Almost in the net, and boink, he split. Of course after showing us how nice and fat he was. Got a lot of bites, got a few bass. Late, after allmost all the tubers were gone, we got live bait. Not a damn bite, must be a difinite am bite there. all in all the day was everything I expected from the messages on here. I am stoked, it was great. Just need to get there earlier next time. From shore or in our cheesy little 12' inflatable "Fish Hunter", it is very fun fishing.

Well depending on the type of vessel you'll be using Halibut gerenaly will be better in the afternoon if your on a boat. Only because the wind comes up in the afternoon and you'll cover a lot more territory on your drift. In the morning whent it's calm your not really moving your bait/lure over much area. Not to say a fish will bite better in the afternoon or better in the morning.

I can say a second condition that can make a big difference in the bite is current. If you have a good a good current moving things across the bottom not The drift will help you locate the fish. Ussually float tubers can kick along as they fish to cover territory but you don't want to be out there in a tube or paddle powered inflatable when that wind starts kicking up. If your unfamilar with Cabrillo beware it gets windy just about everyday in the afternoon during this time of year. There are days when the wind comes rolling down the hill from PV and It will really blow straight down the break wall. I've heard it houl out at the barge in the afternoon. Not to say a fish will bite better in the afternoon.

Thank you very much for the information. I will use it to try and better my knowledge of fishing. (always do, and always need it). Thanks again, any more info on that Simple Green Bldg. area that I call Anahiem Bay under the bridge on PCH would be appreciated too. Halibut exist there too. Also the legal size on Halibut? I believe it is 22". Just to know, not that I will be keeping many legals.
