LAST EDITED ON Jun-28-00 AT 07:15 AM (PST)

Started out by the sandbar. It was windy and a fair amount of kelp in the water. Didn't get anything. I did have a short halibut follow the Fastrac in when I first launched. Fished the beach between the wharf and harbor a little with plastics and the Fastrac and didn't get anything either. Went over to the bait receiver around 7:00 pm and fished hard until I was ready to pass out. Finally, just before 9:00 pm I hook up. Feels like a really good fish - then hard head shake - and snap! Aaaaaaah! Boy, was I pissed! Kept at it and got a 27 incher at 9:00 pm and a 26 incher 10 minutes after that - all on plastic. Fastrac didn't do anything. Fished for about 30 minutes more without a strike.

I would also like to add that everyone float tubing, kayaking, or fishing from a boat should be courteous and cautious of boats that are using the harbor for what it was originally intended for - launching and storing boats! Make sure you are out of the way and do not disturb the boats coming in and out of the harbor. There were two guys in a small aluminum last night who kept drifting right down the center of the path the boats use to go in and out of the harbor - constantly in the way of other boats. It would be a real drag if the boat owners started complaining and we couldn't fish there anymore. Also - do not crowd the bait receiver when boats are getting bait.

The funniest part came right after I caught the first seabass. Just after I released it someone fishing from shore cast a big glob of bait not two feet from my tube. Something for the Barnie page maybe? Like I actually caught the fish right there!

You can't catch tomorrow what you kill today - please practice catch and release.

413, NICE CAST!!!

Pete,
yeah, the last time I was float tubing the harbor some jackass from shore casted a krocodile RIGHT in front of me. It was landed less than a foot away from me and almost hit my rod. He did apologize right away so that was nice.

Carl,
Welcome to the fastrac club... Yeah, they are made by rebel and Mr. Shin usually has the 5 inch ones at Hook Line and Sinker. We've been fishing the silver baits. Look around, I think Cabela's might have them. I got mine in Catalina where I was introduced to them. Good Luck.

When they ran out of jointed ones I bought some of the rattling non-jointed ones and some shallow running (non-fastrac) minnows as spares. The non-jointed ones worked fine and the shallow ones worked in shallow water (under 3 feet). I even nailed a 14 inch halibut that hit it on the top while I was twitching it like freshwater bass fishing. Yo-Zuri Crystal Minnows have also had some action. I'm pretty sure anything that looks like an anchovie will probably work.
