13367, Santa Barbara Harbor Sandspit closure

the sandspit (and subsequently one of the greatest shore fishing areas in the city) has been closed indefinetly because of the discovery of a SINGLE pair of snowy plovers there. the man in the Harbor Patrol office (besides being a HUGE jerk) claims it will be closed for at least 2 months. first they close it down all winter to repair the walkway and now here we go again. if they are so worried about these birds, then they need to shut down the Dredger in the Harbor that operates not 30 yards from this sacred spot... oh wait... that would affect them negatively...

time to dust off the float tube and kayak so i can hit those spots from the water. i (insincerely) hope i don't accidentally bop one of those Plovers with my swimbait.

ok. sorry. i actually do not wish any harm on these birds. but i do question the knee-jerk reaction to shut this particular area down. there is a reason that the birds have not been seen there in over 70 years. it is an INCREDIBLY busy area. and not just from people and dogs venturing out on the sandspit. if anyone has been down there when one or two of the daily teen sailing classes comes through then you understand the mayhem. the reason those birds are there now is most likely because the walkway was closed for sooooooooo long this past winter and spring. you can't shut the Harbor down.

SB's Waterfront Dept. is a complete rogue agency at this point and needs to be cleaned out...

rant over. sorry. as you can see that particular fishing spot means an awful lot to me.
