Fished manhattan Beach (north end, in front of smoke stacks) last Friday the 13th between 5:00 and 6:30pm. As usual, the waves were sorry so I opted for the fishing instead of surfing. I was able to C&R 5 BSP (6" at best), 1 shovelnose (maybe 22"), and 3 other fish that I've never caught before. They are shaped like BSP but are silver and really thin. Anyways, hardly any seaweed in the water and lots of sandcrabs.

Fished el segundo bch (located about 2 miles north of manhattan) on Fathers Day morning from 6:30 - 10:00am. Lots of sandcrabs, some seaweed in the water, but not too bad. C&R 8 BSP. Highlight was cathing/releasing a small Corbina. This guy was only a foot long but after catching nothing but small perch lately, this Corb put a smile on my face. On this day I used #4 red octopus hooks on the advice of a fellow angler. I don't think that it made any difference, but I noticed that the fish get hooked deeper in the mouth and its harder to release the fish without harming it. I usually use circle hooks and these hooks almost always hook the fish in the lip and make the release so much easier. All fish caught with sandcrabs (2-3 per hook). I was able to get some mussells off the rocks and tried using it for bait. Can somebody tell me how to keep the mussell on the hook?

Sounds like a good couple of days, kman. To keep mussels on the hook, I use the piece of grass inside the shell with some meat attached. This stuff stays on the hook really well and the fish bite it just the same. Good luck and tight lines!
