It felt like fall again at the lake today but maybe that was just because I got there late and the wind was blowing a bit. There have been some bigger fish coming in lately so I was kinda getting hopeful for a 5 pounder. I spent most of my time in Jackass canyon but things just didn't come together quite right. I started out throwing a 5" swimbait but wound up fishing behind two different guys in bass boats who came blasting in to the cove throwing a big wake and screwing up the bite. I had one follow up on the swimbait but the fish didn't want to eat it. Finally the bass masters took their short attention spans elsewhere and as I worked back further in the cove I boated a 2-9 casting parallel to the shore with my castaic baby bass. I worked the whole east bank for nothing until I got out on the point and whap, I hooked up a nice fish right where she should have been. Unfortunatley it fell off before I got a look at her. Then as I'm going to cast again I see fish breaking in open water. Nice fish too, so I tie on a hopkins spoon and flip out a short cast waiting for another boil. Just then another genius comes barreling out of the cove right over the fish. Dammit! With that stuff shot, I moved back across from the marina but couldn't get anything going on the buzzbait. By then it was dark and I called it a day. I have heard the spinner bait bite is improving and will probably give that a shot next time I go out. I will probably also avoid jackass canyon. The big fish are there but too many people have been hammering it lately.
