My trip to San Anonio was a suprise.I got some shad with a quick throw of my throw net. Armed with about 150 shad I headed to the dam.I was in a ski boat so I lacked a fish finder.I kept my shad alive in a 80 gallon trash can.I got to the dam a little before 7. I started a lite chumline while on the anchor in fairly deep water. The occasional boil closer to shore sparked my interest but it looked like carp. I set up a rod on the bottom- a 20lb set up with a sliding sinker. While that soaked, I fished a shad on 6lb and a spinning reel. After a half hour I hooked up on the flyline-a12 pound fish that ripped me.After landing that fish a few boaters and jet skiers came in and I could see this will affect the bite.Soon after I got bite on the bottom while smoking a joint. It took me by suprise! The fish stayed deep and I knew it was a huge fish.It was fighting like a 20 pound yellowtail.I fought the fish for ten minutes with jet skiers whipping all over the place. The fish weighed 28 pounds on a handscale. HUGE STRIPER! I continued fishing until 10:30 and then I had to pick up my party to go ski.The next day I couldnt get shad and trolling white jigs and rapalas produced nothing.I came home with 20lss of striper meat.AMAZING!!
