6758, Striper Derby Current Standings

Below is a link to the current standings. The race is heating up good weights are turned in. I'm sure with Pyramid open that will hurt for a while but take a look at these numbers so far. 32 angelers, 64 (legal) fish weighed in, 714.8lbs total = 11.17lb per fish average. Not many lakes around here can boast of that average per fish.

We did have to DQ a couple guys for weighing in illegal fish (caught before the park opens). The guys that were DQed were good sticks and one was in the running for Total weight. You hate to have to DQ folks but rules are rules and there is no grey. This was unfortunate and hopefully there wont be any more!
Thanks to all and get out there and catch some more. There are bigger fish that that!
God bless
Dave

That's good to see the big fish getting up there.Someones going to get a bigun and break that wide open!

Nice to hear your keeping an eye on the rule benders,it's just too tempting for some to wait until the gate opens. Thanks for keeping it fair for everyone.

All the fish at Pyramid are mostly small. Lot of dink stripers and every fish I caught was 1.5# - 2#

Only saw one fish bigger that 5# all day.

Dave,
I weighed in a 13.3 & my buddy Ed brought in a 13 on tuesday. He got a couple of sm. fish on wednesday also. I have to get ready for a halibut tournament down south this weekend so I probably won't be back up there until next week.

I'm just reminding you because I remember last year you guys were driving threw the west gate early, If anyone sees you in there before the other gate is opened the commitee will DQ you. I don't want to see anyone else booted from the derby because of something small like that.

Good luck in the derby Team Striper.............Shane

Shane,
Allow me to correct any misconception. If the west ramp is opened (to the public) by the park then it is legal to fish there! But IF THE PARK IS NOT OPEN YET then it is illegal to fish.
This is NOT a small issue as you stated above. A rules violation is a rules violation and if someone breaks a rule in any tournament, contest derby ect there are consequenses. In this case ANY rules violation will result in a DQ.
You know how much I had struggled with DQ'ing these guys (I spoke with you on the phone), but both guys knew thew were in the park before hours and one guy had 5 fish for 49.4 lbs before park opened (by his own admission to me). I know these guys are good sticks and one of those guys could take the whole weight thing, but they have to obey the rules (see rule #1 on the rules sheet).
I know the flyer states under the dates "sunrise to sunset hours" Everyone should know that means PARK HOURS, Next year (if there is one) we will be very specific on the hours. I would like to think that fishermen are courtious and self policing, however I am finding out this is not the case.
This derby is something that is Given to you guys by the Friends of Castaic Lake, you are not having to pay an entry fee, just fish and weigh in thats all. There are some great prizes at stake here for free! If anyone wants to cheat we/you/all of us should NOT want them involved. Its that simple.
If there are any questions call me I will set the record straight!

Dave,
The thing with the west ramp is that there are two gates. They open one to let the life guards in for work before the sun is up. And people drive threw it thinking that the lake is opened. I was just
letting everyone know that just cause the gate on the left is opened doesn't mean that it's alright to go in. We're supposed to wait for the gate on the right to open.
I got a chance to hit Pyramid Friday morning. It was sick.As many stripers as you could handle. They were on the skinny side still,But chewed the flash jig pretty good.

Talk to you later Dave..............Shane

I heard that Pyramid was wild. I almost went up there Saturday but I didnt want to fight all the boat traffic that would be there between the regulars that would be there and the ABA having a tournament there. I went to Castaic instead couldnt get a striper bite so I switched over to Bass fishing and had several before I had to get home. Did You get some topwater action?
