5755, Lake Skinner

Anybody been to Skinner lately ? Last time I was there early this summer it was almost choked with algae growth like I had never seen there. Does anybody know if they have bluestoned and cleared things up a bit ? Any reports would be appreciated too.

They've bluestoned, and the water is gin clear. It killed a lot of the tulies. It also killed the underwater weeds. They are just starting to regrow. The lake is at full pool. I was there Saturday 9/14. It was a tough bite (or it may be that I am a lousy fisherman). I caught a big 5" largemouth. I also caught a gull on a Sammy. I wish the bass thought it looked as good as the birds did that morning. The gull was released in perfect condition.

There are thousands of babies (<4") schooling in the tulies. We saw a few big boys wrangling the babies. Early in the morning there were a ton of largemouth boils in the cove-mouths along the north shore. We usually go to throw at the striper boils early, but they were quiet.

A few stripers were hooked on bait by the armada at the inlet while we drifted through. With all of the boats that are there, you'd think it would be one big hook-up. When I go to check that bite, I never see anything other than the occasional schoolie getting hooked.
