Introducing the hottest bass bait to hit the market in quite some time. Rob, you were asking for a bait to eclipse the Almighty Senko, well hold on this might be it. Coming out of the ICAST Show in Vegas last week, and from the swamps of the Florida Everglades, comes the amazing Hover Lure.
Now, I know what you are thinking, just another lure that will be left in the box and never used. Well forget it, once this lure is tied on it will never be taken off. The Hover Lure uses a bass' natural disdain for dragon flies and turns it into an automatic fish catching assembly. Check out there website at

HA-HA, how's that for SPAM. The guys who went to the ICAST show brought back some info on these lures, and I almost pissed my pants laughing. Apparently there already is an infomercial circulating, so some of you might have already seen it. The website has some videos of bass striking this concoction, probably taped at some Bill Dance private pond. It's pure comedy.

Now, I know there are products developed specifically to pry money from the wallets of novice fishermen, but this has to be the most blatant attempt ever. This P.O.S. makes the Vortex Lures, Helicopter Lure, Flying Lure, and even the Walking Worm, look like marketable products. I personally nominate it for the Barni Bait of the new millenium. Available soon at fine retailers, but there'll be ice-fishing on Lake Mead before you'll see it in my store.

WOW. The amount of rubbish that is produced every year to catch fishermen never ceases to amaze me. That is the biggest hoax I've ever seen! Anybody that would store that piece of garbage in his tackle box, much less spend $0.01 on it, NEEDS TO HAVE HIS HEAD EXAMINED.

I like the cammercial though...Kind of a catchy tune....

Scary lure though, and when did Bass start hating Dragonflies so much and why?

Not to be a smartass but bass do actually eat dragonflies. I watched them doing it at Lake Powell one morning in this little cove. This 12 inch bass that I had caught the day before was jumping 2 and 3 feet out of the water trying to catch them. I think he was really hungry :-) I read a long time ago too that Murray won some tournament on Havasu pitching a tiny senko or some small lure at fish that he said were eating dragonflies. But how on earth you use a lure that is shaped exactly like a dragonfly is beyond me. Those wings would snag on every piece of moss in sight. It's a classic case of trying to make a lure that is very realistic but winds up completely unfishable. Definite barni zone material. We'll have to recruit Jamon to write up a new page.

I have also seen bass chase dragonflies, was at perris in about 40 ft of water watching a small 12inch bass try to get this dragon fly, from my point of view catching that dam dragonfly was more trouble than it was worth.

The most effective dragonfly imitation is a FLY and 7 or 8 weight FLY ROD. I have one and have caught smallmouth bass on the pattern. Its not as effective as a Chernobyl Ant though.

These braniacs at Hover Lure are putting the cart before the horse on this one...

Bass absolutely eat dragon flies. Every summer you can see them at Lake Mead leaping out of the water to grab them. But a lure that incorporates a lily pad and dragonfly that you cast out and let sit, or pop along is ridiculous. Why wouldn't a Snag Proof Frog work on those same fish on the video they produced? The Hover Lure is a cluster-f*&k rig, and is being marketed as the next big thing. It's absolute BullS%$t, and it's disgusting to see these companies and individuals pose as cutting edge tackle manufacturers.

WHOA I didn't realize they had the lily pad built in. That is downright hilarious :-) :-) :-)

the lily pad thing is strait up rediculous, maybe i should add them to my helicopter lure or the dragonfly that flys away from you.......

All you have to do is get a two rod stamp. Cast the Hover lure out, and let it sit. Grab your flipping stick and flip the little lily pad. That should get em better then the little dragon fly above the pad

I caught some good fish at Powell when fishing with Dean Rojas. We started using red Splash-its when we saw fish absolutely killing red dragon flys. All we would do is reel them along the surface through the small pieces of brush in the water. What a trip that was. Those fish were coming all the way out of the water and taking the dragon flys out of the air or off the branches. Watch out for that on those desert lakes. It can win a tournament for ya.

I move that this item be added to the awards for big bass days of july. I think we need to incorporate one jackass item for each big bass days contest just to make the rest of us feel better about ourselves... hahaha.

I can only imagine how much fun Kevin and Jeff had playing with that thing at the show. They did talk to the pro-staffers didn't they???

I know dragonflies catch bass, ive used them on several occasions. There is a small pond about 5 minutes away from my house, carbon canyon regional park. I flylined 4 inch live dragonflies, on 8# line. On my best day i caught 4 fish that totaled about 14 lbs. This lure is a joke, almost as comical as the mini crankbaits i am making for bluegills. But for the last hour of light, a real dragon works pretty well, that is if its not sinking below the surface.

Glad to see I'm not alone in finding this lure/combo as a worthless piece of marketing crap. I don't know why industry thinks that the tackle buying public is brainless. Maybe we can be, regarding new products that guarantee more bass? Well then we need to appoint a tackle product consumer watchdog. Someone who is not afraid to tell it like it is, someone who is constantly scouring the horizon for new product to laugh at, someone with a lot of free time(which takes me out of the running). Open nominations are now being accepted.

I've run black skirt material sideways(for wings) through a black and blue 4 inch worm, wacky rigged it, and fished it by pitching it over a tule and just popping it on the surface. It's kinda funky looking and only gets used in the heat of the summer, but it does work on rare occasion.
