40, Losing to South Central
Posted by , Thu Jul-15-99 03:03 PM
Didn't go fishing but thought this message might humor some people.
Wednesday, July 14th, was my 21st birthday (feel free to send gifts, I need them) and I woke up for work as usual (actually it was only my third day of work).
Outside was sunny and warm, a good start to a nice birthday. Living in South Central Los Angeles sometimes has its perks and I felt that this was my day. I wander out to my car to drive to work. When I get to the lot I look around and realize my car is no longer parked where it was last night. In its place is a pile of broken glass. I canceled work for the morning, filed the police report, and bummed a ride to work at noon. Having recently lost my mode of transportation I had to resort to public transportation, another great perk of South Central, to get back home. On the way to the bus station I stopped in the liqour mart and brown bagged a 22oz of Mickeys on the bus. Being the only white person on the bus would have probably been enough to get the locals talking but brown bagging Mickeys made it a sure thing. I called my parents to report the traggic loss and found that not only did I not have theft insurance (thereby lossing the value of my car), but my dog got attacked and had to get s#####ches, another great birthday surprise. I did manage to end the night in a drunken bliss that included numerous trips to pray to the porcelin god so I guess one thing went well.
Anyone who is so inclined can feel free to send monetary donations to the "My name is James and my life sucks" Fund care of James Beck.
Fish on!
PS Can I bum a ride?
