208, March 4th at Margarita

Wow! This must have been the weekend for Margarita! Looks like everyone was up there. Anyhow, my buddy Pete and I went up there Saturday morning for a couple of hours and tried it out. A day or so before, Pete had been down to Wilderness Outfitters and talked to Pete S. about getting a jig-rig, so when we began fishing at the crack of dawn Saturday, that's what we were up to.
We started out across from the first ramp and fished the tules looking for bass hiding in the cover. If we were running parallel to shore (versus fishing a point) and no tules were nearby, we'd pull out the spinnerbaits and M.S. Slammers and run them parallel to shore. Well, we didn't find anyone interested in the jigs (guess they hadn't had their morning cup of coffee or something) but upon entering White Oak Bay across the second ramp, we found a couple.
I was the first to hook up. Pete was fishing the tules along one of the points and I was throwing my 7" Slammer past the tule line where there was a nice bed of old grass under the water. Second cast parallel to shore, I got hit. Luckily this guy was patient because I was unable to multi-task that morning. The tension was too loose on the reel, the trolling motor was moving us into the tules and my "lake legs" were not fully acquired yet. But in the end I managed to pull him into the boat and he weighed in at 2.5 pounds. Within 10 minutes of releasing him, Pete casted over a couple of submerged boulders with a chartreuse spinnerbait and found one hanging out on the far side. Brought him in and he weight about 2 1/2 as well. Unfortunately the weekend didn't allow us to stay on the lake any longer than a couple of hours that morning, but at least we got our fix!
