Somehow the post that I put last night about the tournament didn't get on the board correctly so here goes again.<BR>The 1st Bass-n-Tubes tournament of the year was held this weekend at lake Nacimiento. 14 anglers in kick boats and float tubes were on the water at dawn on Saturday morning to get after the bass. The weather the first day was partly cloudy with bright sun when it came out especially in the afternoon. Overall the bite was pretty good the first day and a couple guys reported catching 10 to 25 fish on wiggle warts, spinnerbaits, and dragging plastic. The disappointing thing was that most of this fish were spots in the 8 to 12 inch range. Dave Ryle did manage to connect with a 2.75 pound largemouth for big fish and 2nd place. Dave caught his fish on a wiggle wart. Tim Crane Jr. was able to catch 3 keeper spots on blades and plastic for 2.95 pounds and 1st place after day 1. John Lake brought in 2 keepers the first day for 2.15 pounds both spots. From there the weights were very close with some anglers bringing in 2, 1 or no keepers. I had 2 keepers out of 18 boated with all but 1 caught on split shot baby brush hogs on 6lb line. Thanks billiebass for posting that tip on the site, it was definitely the key for me this weekend!!<BR>Day 2 we woke up to a rain and wind storm that blew in overnight. Conditions were miserable in the morning but luckily the storm was not too cold. Most anglers stayed close to the marina in the morning but some of the kickboaters crossed the lake to cover the water over there. The bite day 2 was tougher than day 1 for most anglers. I kept to my pattern of dragging the baby brush hogs on split shot and had a lot of bites in the early morning. The fish unfortuneately were very small, but at 10am, after some of the other guys moved off a good area, I went over there and found some better spots, boating 3 keepers in about 45 minutes. I felt confident but I was hoping to add at least 1 more fish to my bag so I worked over some areas I had already fished in the morning. Fishing very slowly and methodically I was able to boat 2 more keepers, one largemouth and one spot as well as numerous other small spots for the only limit of the day. Weigh in was disappointing for most anglers but Eric Howard was able to bring in 2 fish to boost his weight to just a hair under 3 pounds for 2nd place. Tim Crane Jr. hung in there despite no fish on the second day to take 2nd place. My limit went 4.3something and with my 2 fish from the day before I had 6.3 pounds for the win. Brian Long, who traveled up with me from San Luis after driving up from Santa Barbara had big fish, a 1.03 pound spotted bass. Brian was using my same brush hog technique to catch his fish. <BR>
