Lately Santa Margarita has been a little tough one me, but I was hearing some good things yesterday at Wilderness Outfitters about the bite up there so despite the drizzle I headed up at 2:30. There was a trout plant today with 2000lb's of small sized trout put in so I started getting that good feeling as I headed out. Rather than fish around the marina I went up to white oak and threw a big spinnerbait and a black jig. After a bit, I got bit (har har) on the black jig and stuck a nice fish right around 4lb's. Very nice. The fish was in about 12 feet of water. I fished the jig for a while longer before switching to a crank. I worked the bank back towards the marina and picked up a small one about a pound and a half up shallow. A few minutes later it was on and I stuck 3 quick fish all over 2lb. By then it was about 5 so I did what I always do when there is a trout plant, I went in to the marina and threw the MS Slammer and the small AC Minnow in hopes of a striper or big bass. Well the only thing I saw feeding on the trout was a cormorant which happily wolfed one down out by the bouys. Trout were rising everywhere as the sun went down, but I didn't bother fishing for them.
Here's the photos.
Starting with the jig fish

and 2 of the crank fish (gotta love those self taken shots)
