167, More trout fishing

Although the trout bite slowed down considerably this weekend, trout fishing at Lopez wasn't half bad, even in the rain...didn't want to let it spoil it my MLK 3 day weekend. Speaking of things slowing down, last Friday must have been a rare one (see 1/14/00 post). It went back the usual speed...took me all day to catch my limit on Saturday. Some people fishing with inflated nightcrawlers (cut in half) did much better than the Powerbaiters. I managed to loose another really nice one...it broke my 2# line. I saw it swim by went it came near shore. It was definitely the biggest one I've hooked, maybe four or five pounds...then it whipped around...then, pop! Oh, well. I fished in the early Sunday morning rain for only 3 hours, caught a 14 incher, then a nice 2 pounder. I lost a couple more that felt pretty nice...maybe 3-5 pounders? Who knows, everything feels big with super-ultralight! I think I'm going to upgrade to 4# line since I SUCK using that 2# line! Maybe try spiderwire? Anyways, I couldn't take the rain anymore even though I was sportin' the full-on rain gear. Everything was so wet, I felt like I was being saturated, man! I went home happy though. I tried trout fishing at Santa Margarita on MLK Day morning to change things up, but I didn't get a single bite all morning. Skunked! It rained lightly the whole time and since I wasn't saturated, I packed up and went back to Lopez in the afternoon. Lopez came through...caught a 14 incher, and ended the weekend with a 13 incher. I called it quits when it started to rain harder around 4pm.
