I took my 10 year old daughter up to the west fork this morning. I haven't been there since the late 70's or early 80's. We hopped on our bikes and rode up the bike trail to the catch-and-release bridge and started fishing down stream from there. BRRRRRRRR... 41 degrees when we arrived. By the time we left it warmed up to about 70. I spent over half my time helping my daughter learn a line pitching and retrieve technique. We fished for about 3 hours with salmon eggs and green power bait. I ended up with 6 naturals (all under six inches) and 1 rainbow stocker (about eight inches). My daughter landed two naturals and had a great time. All fish were released without harm. It’s a great spot to teach the kids, but I probably won't return there for sport. There were only a few anglers close to the catch-and-release area. It was nice going on a weak day. When we left, there were probably 25 anglers between Bear Creek and Hwy 39 (about a half mile). I can only imagine the pressure this place gets on the weekends and summer time. In general, it was a successful trip!
Tight Lines,
Terry G.
