Hey guys. Just joined the forum, and decided to start off with a bang. Me and basskid264 went to Santee Lakes yesterday, and here's the report:

Stopped at Lakeside Bait and Tackle and picked up a dozen shiners apiece. Started at the island in lake 4 and Anthony got this on a shiner:http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y68/JrBasser/100_0335.jpg

Then I started fishing a Rat-L-Trap and had a HUGE bass, pushing 10 pounds. Swirl on the bait right at the shore, litterally 2 inches from it. Saw its whole side and everything. Threw a few small casts in the same area for nada. Next cast to some tules I hook up and land: http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y68/JrBasser/100_0336.jpg

Then Anthony hooked up on the bridge casting to where I had the big one swirl on my bait and got:http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y68/JrBasser/100_0338.jpg

Then he decided to pay me back from last week, and caught this on my pole/Rat-L-Trap:http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y68/JrBasser/100_0339.jpg

Moved to Lake 3 and I throw out some Powerbait for nada, and a shiner right next to the dock on 4 pound test. Shiner gets bit and I land:http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y68/JrBasser/100_0341.jpg

Then after a while of nothing, we head to lake 2 and Anthony hooks up on his Rat-L-Trap, and lands this guy right away:

Then my line with a shiner on it takes off and I get:http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y68/JrBasser/100_0345.jpg

Then I move back up to lake three, and I throw out another shienr, and get this:

Fish there for about an hour and decide that with the remaining half hour before our ride got there, we'd go to the other end of lake 3. Our ride is literally 20 feet away and I throw my Rat-L-Trap one last time along the shore and get nailed. Fish makes some huge runs. With the lipless cranks I usually horse them in, but the front hook on the lure was thrown right in front of me, so I let it take some line. When we landed her, she had one small hook in her top lip. My personal best bass. Didn't have a scale, but the fish looked close to 7 pounds. even though it doesnt look quite that big in the picture. Fish had a huge gut on it, almost as if a trout were curled up inside, and I could have fit both my fists in its mouth:

Not sure where you live cst but these lakes are in santee. It's made up of 7 small lakes and lakes 6 and 7 are reserved for campers only if u camp there. Its really good fishing there most of the year. Not really qaulity sized fish since the lakes are so small but a lot about the size we caught and i even had a few out of there last year pushing 6 and 8 pounds. Any shad imitations baits work really well especially burning rat-l-traps this time of the year. Late spring and summer id fish small jerkbaits. These lakes are infested with shad. Sometimes they'll hide and you cant find the schools of them but other times you cant go 10 feet without finding some bass busting on shad. Here's their website if your interested in knowing more.

Thats actually a trout on a stringer. A man and his (I'd say 4 year old) son were out there with some chinsy push button combos. They were fishing powerbait with rigs I knew just wouldnt work. He started asking a few questions, and I decided to take it a step further and give him a rig. basskid showed him the rig on his pole and how it worked as I tied on up for him. He thanked us very much and put some powerbait on. Threw only about 20 feet out and we showed him how to use the bobber as a strike indicator. Litterally seconds later the bobber flew up and the rod bent over. In about a half hour they had 3 fish. We left that spot to search for more bass, so I don't know how they ended up. I took a few pics for him and emailed them to him which he was very thankful for.

Nice job on hooking them up with the right rig and knowledge of how to use it. You probably did more to start the kid down the road to becoming a fisherman than you know.
Tight lines,
