fished for a few hours today. i was throwing a cultiva rippin' minnow by the dock and had 5-10 bass follow it up during the 5 casts i took before i got kicked out of that spot. on two of those casts, a bass came up and just touched the back treble with his nose. unfortunatly, i couldnt get bit on that bait so i switched to a dropshotted lip ripper (3" trout worm) in chartuese and managed to get 3 bass. i also farmed a few fish in the 2 pound range while split shotting the same Lip Ripperz. The fishing seems to be hot right now. A couple of bass were chasing bluegills but most of the bass were searching for crawdads instead. I wasnt looking for bedding fish but i did see one.

went back today and got a 3#er and a 1#er on flylined nightcrawlers dragged SLOWLY on the bottom. the bite was real tough. i tried jerkbaits and dropshots but was forced to switch to nightcrawlers. at first i was nose hooking them with a size 6 mosquito hook but they didnt start biting till i downsized to a #8 octopus hook. i farmed another fish around 2-2.5 pounds.

there were a few floattubers there but they didnt catch anything.
some guy fishing the dock had a 12" bass on his stringer...
and one guy on a boat was tossing swimbaits and said he caugh ta 3# and had fish up to 8 follow the bait up to the boat.

seems like im the only one posting reports but oh well...

went back on the 30th and in 3 hours of fishing i caught 2 dinks and a 2.5#er on a nightcrawler again. i tried hard jerkbaits for a good while but i only got the fish to follow them. anyone want to shed some light into how you are supposed to fish these things? i have tried pins minnows, rip 'n minnows in two different sizes and x-raps. ive tried a jerk pause jerk pause, jerk jerk jerk pause, constant jerking and a strieght retrieve but non of them seem to work. oh some guy caught a crappie that had to be atleast a pound on a sabiki rig. and i farmed two crappie over a pound each.

went back today (tuesday the 31st) and tried nightcrawlers, jerkbaits, swimbaits, and dropshotted roboworms. ended up getting skunked but i did get a bass around 8 pounds to follow my swimbait (that would be my first follow!), that was kind of encouraging since i had been starting to lose faith in those swimbaits.

Jerkbaits are really more of a transition bait winter to spring then spring and for fishing around schools of bait mabey try some brush hogs rattle traps or something those are my old faithfulls.

What time are you fising the dock. There was a 11.05 taken about noon time and Butch had a 13 lb. and 2 about 8 lbs. none was taken today.

saterday and monday i fished the last few hours before night. the other 2 days (thursday and tuesday) i was fishing around 10am to 1ish.

i had a big bass follow the swimbait but the more i think about it, the more stupid i see my self being. i wasnt paying attention and when i lokoed down and saw the bass it scared me and i screwed up the retrieve cause of that.

I was thinking of going to castaic lagoon next week. Do you suggest any areas (i will be fishing from shore)?

try around the CSUN dock. Another spot to consideris on the other side where the water comes in from castaic. there are cattails or some sort of structure but i dont remember it too well, havent fished that spot for over a year...

how high are the weeds as of now (from the surface?). I am debating on purchasing some weedless frogs, etc... but if there is some clearance, I could simply use the buzzbait that I currently have.

the weeds arent matting the surface. you have a few feet of clearence so a buzzbait would be a better choice. On the other hand, it has been my experience that those castaic bass only bite bait, and soft plastics (swimbaits too but i guess thats a little different).
