I may be transferring to PT.Mugu base (Oxnard area) this summer and was wondering where do people bass fish in that area and how far are the lakes that they fish? I am looking at getting an 01 Skeeter 190SX with a Yamaha 150HPDI is that motor ok for Cali emissions? One last question is the '05 VMAX 150 carbed motors ok for Cali or not? Thanks

Some lakes you'll probably want to check out are

Casitas - big bass, clear water, pretty tough fishing but always the shot at a giant

Piru - good sized bass, 10+ fish not too uncommon. Good overall fishing

Castaic Lake and Castaic Laggon - the upper (big) lake has great bass fishing. Lots of nice 2 to 5lb fish, with a decent chance at something bigger. The lagoon is more of a trophy lake, probably tougher to get bit but a better chance at a 10+ fish

Lake Cachuma - northern strain largemouth mostly with the occasional 10lber caught. Great lake for reaction, topwater, etc. Can have extremely clear water in the summer time

That should get you started. I believe the motors you're talking about should be ok on all of those lakes. Diamond Valley Lake has special motor requirements but that's a fair drive from Pt. Mugu.

If you are going to be on base you should take up saltwater fishing the base has some of the best fishing around the area. plus salmon about april just out of the base.
