Heck dude, my first jig was all red! I used red rubber bands that came off the newspapers at my folkd house, tied them around a jig head with lead wire (before lead was dangerous!), took it out to the local lake and caught a bass on it on the first cast, no smelly jelly, nothin'.
I think I remember reading in some old bass book how red and other bright colors can make a bass react and hit out of anger.

Red hooks work, but so does most everything else too. cv
