Hey Gang!
Made the first trout run of the season yesterday (Christmas eve) up to lake Cachuma with my buddy the infamous Dimitri Peros. So we get the boat in the water at about 7:00am, and there was still frost on the dock! Anyways we worked the area from just east of Johnsons to the dam till 11:45 (family stuff) and must say the bite was pretty good but we were having a hard time getting them trouts to stick for some reason?
We landed 6 trouts for about 20 plus hookups! All fish were hooked on trap rigged 3in big hammers in the sea wolf, peppertrout and solid pearl colors, fished on 3/16-1/4oz leadheads fished way back on 4 or 6lb mono. Other notes the lake is 60ft down and there is on one lane on the launch, but I had no problem floating my 24ft Hydrasports. Also you can park right next to the ramp, and the place is a ghost town this time of year so go up and take advantage of some peaceful fishing! …..Captain Larry
