14086, New Hogan Report Sept. 1

The lake was pretty slow this week unless you had a fast boat to chase boils with. The boils (stripers feeding on baitfish that they've chased to the surface) can erupt anywhere, anytime, and often do. I caught my first striper in a boil this week, tossing a Zara Pup into the feeding frenzy. The boil erupted around the boat as I trolled, and I grabbed my spinning rod. That's an exciting way to catch them.

Those boils are very exciting, the sound of all the splashing can be heard for quite a distance. Some fellas just sit around on their boats, waiting for a boil and then charge to it. You need a fast boat as the boils submerge in about 30 seconds.

I caught two others on shad while trolling, giving up on anchovy and sardine after a whole first day of nothing. I spent the night on the lake, and all three fish were caught on the second day, September 1.
