We used to fish the lagoons down in the Carlsbad/Oceanside areas and by walking the shorelines using white spinnerbaits, Mepps and Rattletraps in the murky sometimes muddy water, we did very good on the Largemouths up to 3 to 4 pounds. I saw one that went about 10 pounds caught there too. This place is loaded with tules but is very shallow and I believe it is a bird santuary. Anybody know anything about fishing here? I wonder if you can float tube here without getting hassled by the police....?

You can fish there. I live about 3 miles away from the lagoon. It is a bird sanctuary ,but it still is public land, and can be fished. Unfortunatley it's over grown with reeds and only has one place to fish from. I've pulled some nice bass from there over the years, including foul hooking a striped mullet that was about 15lbs. There is a web page some where out there with all info including species listings. Included in the listed species is small mouth bass, I never seen one taken from there......but the page was posted by DFG on a fish study they conducted there. There is access to the lagoon off the Hwy 101, and under the Jefferson street bridge. Try searching for any links on "Buena Vista Lagoon"

I'm pretty sure they stocked a couple of the creeks with redeye bass back in the day, I think they are still present in one of them-
