Hey Gang
Drug the beast up to Lake Cachuma on Sunday, and this time I brought my buddy Leo his wife Diana, and there daughters Alisha (9) and Sierra (7). We didn’t get on the water around 8:30ish and within 5 minutes we trolled up 3 nice trout! It took us a little while to get in the groove but in no time the nine year old was cranking them in and the seven year old was scooping them up with net like a old pro! Then dad would carefully release the ones that were not too badly hooked. Their enthusiasm was a blast! And we had a great time! I told them that the wash down hose was a trout whistle and to spray the water overboard to attract the trouts, and a few times it worked and we hooked up! That and they had a good time netting the few trout we kept in the bait tank. We ended the day catching 20 trout from 1.5lbs to 2.75lbs all on trap rigged 3in Big Hammers ,with all pearl being the top producer as well some fish on trout patterns. We were fishing them straight tied to 4 and 6lb line and setting them 50-70ft behind the boat. Another point of interest was that we caught fish all over the lake and pretty much all day long…Capt Larry…

Good show Capt.! Thats the way to get kids intrested in fishing....Looks like I made the wrong choice Sunday, my girlfriend an I went to Lopez instead of the first thought I had to go to Cachuma....we trolled Big Hammers all day the same way for Nodda! Not a bite! Oh well, looks like the bite is still on at Cachuma...Thanks for the report....

Larry, were you just joking with them about the washdown hose or did you know about how those trout are conditioned to the spray/splash of feed being throw into their farm pens? I found this out as a kid tossing sand onto my ultra curly Penguin mono to make it sink after a cast from shore. Everytime I did it, I soon got bit after. Put 2 and 2 together years later. Heard the same from other guys who spray the water with supersoakers to set off a bite.
