Ok what do you all think about using scents/attractants?
What ones work best? How best to use them? Etc. Any other comments you would like to make.

bang works great for every lure. if u are not getting any follow ups put this on on u will usally get a follow up every cast and maybe some fish to. for example::::if you and your buddy are throwing swimbaits and not getting much follow ups--put this on and you will get tons of follows. maybe a couple fish too.

For Jigs and anything plastic (Worms,Brush Hogs, etc...) I sprinkle "Craw Cane" in my storage case dividers, or the zip-locks I have them in. I will also toss in a little garlic powder to the Craw Cane to "Punch" it up a bit. I like to leave them exposed to the Craw Cane for at least 48 hrs, if not longer. The best thing about Craw Cane is that YOU CAN RECYCLE IT!(Pour it back in the jar, shake, and use it again!)

Swimbaits = HOT SAUCE!

When I need a cover scent for malodorous situations, Bang "Combo" in the big spray bottle. I also use it after I catch a fish, to cover up any hints of the previous fish caught on the lure.(This is probably my own silly superstition) I like the anise smell to it, and so do the fish!

With these 3 scents in your arsenal, it would be hard to lose!

Late!

BANG is great. They have many flavors, including Crawfish, Shad, Pure Craw, Anise, and Combo (Shad and Crawfish mix). They come in aeresol cans, plastic scray bottles, or bottles with a squeeze aplicator. Which ever way you prefer.

I like the aeresol cans, I spray it on my hands before I start fishing to make sure I dont have any odd smells, and then of course I religously apply it to the bait.

Bang works sick and also my favorite, Bass Feast smelly jelly. Seriously that stuff is deadly. Just dont spill any of it ANYWHERE or your bummed. Butter up all your plastics and you should be good for about half an hour. Good fishing to all.

I got into using Bang about 10 or so years ago and never looked back. Luckly for me I got sponsored by them for a few years and got the stuff by the case! All my fishing buddies got a can for Xmas! LOL. It works great and because it comes in an aeresol it is very flexible for stuff like reaction baits. The year that CJ and I won ABA Angler of the Year he got me using the smelly jelly. That's some rank stuff for sure. Wicked nasty smell, but it works good, especially for shaking. One thing I have never really like is the name fish attractant. I doubt that it truly "attracts" fish, like they will come running to the dinner bell. It would make more sense to call it Fish Convincer since after all, that is really what it does. Convinces the fish that, yummy, this tastes good, I think I'll go ahead and swallow it. In other words it works great to solve that short bite problem.

I was mostly using procure's saltwater stuff because that was my focus, but I started fishing freshy bass again and have used their crawdad bait sauce as well as the baitfish sauce with good success on jigs and plastics. Troutwise, the anise and garlic oils have been cool. Nightcrawler sauce was good for the planters as well.

Thanks for the replies, but, do you think the scents help because the fish smell them or does it work because it masks other smells that arn't natural or like Hooksetter hinted to, the fish hold the bait longer because of the taste.

IMO they are effective because they hide other scents. I have not noticed a lot of difference in effectiveness among the ones that I have caught fish with. The others act as repellants IMO.
I always carry some anise hand disinfectant, and I use it before hadling any tackle. This seems to make most of the difference. I only use attractant when fishing those nasty smelling swimbaits. I like Gels/pastes like Hot Sauce, so I'm not overspraying into the boat or water. They seem to stay on longer as well.

LunkerLure. It's blue, comes in a plastic bottle, and I get it at Wal-Mart.
