I think most fisherman who have successfully fished the topwater will agree that it's the most exciting method of bass fishing. It's awsome to see a big bass crash the surface to eat your plug.

Top water is all about conditions. The ideal topwater conditions are when the surface is flat and glassy. Ussually you'll find these conditions first thing in the morning or in the evening into the night. The fish also should be in a surface feeding pattern not to say you won't get bit if they're not but it could be real tough if they are all hugging structure in deeper water and your trying to get them to come to the surface to eat your lure.

If the conditions are flat calm and you see breaking fish on the surface then you'll it's a good time break out the top water baits. when you fish it try different retrieves until you find the one they want. Some it's a fast retrieve with alot of splashing other times it's a twitch an pause. You'll get the idea and after you catch your first topwater fish I'm willing to bet your going to realize that's it's your favorite way of catching bass. I got bit on the top water three times this week. I'm still thinking about it.

Good Luck,

Jerry
