Brian and Zack and I launched the boat at 6:30 this morning. I started out throwing an Osprey while Zack and Brian threw buzzbaits and ripbaits. Brian got one fish on the buzzbait. As the fog cleared Brian switched to pitching, and caught two more fish. I decided to throw surface iron just for the hell of it, and although I didn't get touched, I threw it for a good 6.5 hours. The remaining half hour was the MS Slammer, speedtrap and reeper that I would randomly decide to use now and then. I think the surface iron could catch fish, but the wood bite didn't seem to be on today. No interest in any of the plugs or swimbaits. If nothing else, it's pretty funny to see the expressions on people's faces when you bomb an iron twice as far as a trout plug and it results in a huge eruption, normally considered out of casting distance... I'll probably throw the iron some more, just cause it looked so good. I was running it right on the surface so it kicked like a slammer. I think a rainbow trout colored one with a bucktail might catch. We'll see. It would definitely be satisfying to catch a bass on iron. But, anyway, Brian ended up with 3 fish for about 7.5#, Zack missed about 34 bites and broke off a nice fish, I didn't even get bit, and we saw a 10 pounder in the marina. Lots and lots of little tiny shad in the lake. Kind of weird, I've never seen this many shad.
