The experiment continues...

We met Larry (Calico Hunter) at the lake as he was busy showing his friend Pete how to trap-rig a 3 inch Big Hammer. Something we still haven't gotten down to a science - but we are getting closer.

We hit the lake and started trolling around 8:00 am. Before we could get the third rod out the first rod was already bit and produced about a 1.5 lb. Rainbow. The morning started off with a bang. I honestly don't think we went 100 yards before we put the first 3 fish in the boat. The rest of the day was pretty steady. We fished until around 2:30 or 3:00 pm for over 50 hookups (Larry lost count after 48) of which around 1/2 the fish were boated or released without taking them out of the water. We had my three year old son and his 6 year old cousin with us. I'm sure our hook-up to catch ratio would have been a little better if we hadn't let them try and reel in most of the "paper-mouthed" trout. It was well worth it as the kids had an absolute blast catching the fish and riding on "Yarry's Boat".

The entire day was broken up by radio calls from Pete going on and on about how awesome trolling the "plastics" was. He was obviously having a great day as well. At one point he said, "the plastic is outfishing the Rapala by like five to one". Larry responded with, "I told you".

Today we tried using 8 lb. Power-Pro for the trap-rig leader. We were threading it through the bait to the hook bend. Larry was tying it to the hook bend. I was trying something different (because I found tying it to the hook bend too difficult) and tying it the the eye of the jig head. Both methods seemed to work fine. Threading through the bait is still a hassle and difficult for beginners. The next time we go I would like to try some strong florocarbon.

The hot colors were Pepper Trout, Invader (aka Sand Bass Special), and Sea Wolf. Most were rigged on 1/4 oz. Super Shad or 3/8 oz. Assalt Darter Jig Heads.
