Can you elaborate on the problem you are having? When you say updated posts, I think of how the forum will mark posts as old based on the last time that you visisted the site. You can also control which posts are marked old if you go to the user menu and enable the mark timestamp feature. I personally use the mark timestamp feature because I check the forum from multiple computers and I can mark messages as old from one machine and that will show up on the other machine.

Am I on the right track here or no? The forum look and feel have changed but the verion hasn't so it shouldn't (in theory of course) be acting any differently than before.

Another thing that can happen sometimes is that you click on one of the sorting options at the top of the forum so it gets sorted by another criteria besides last updated date. You'll see at the top of each forum a row of sorting options like:

Topics sorted by: Message ID | Topic | Author | Last updated date | Replies | Views

If you're seeing a lot of old posts, try clicking on Last updated date to sort it normally.
