Poll question: How many of you hunt and fish?

For me hunting and fishing have always been the two main activities in my life, but that is just one person. While talking with a friend that has been around the hunting and fishing communities in California for quite a while he mentioned that it appears to him that there are more people who are just interested in fishing and not hunting. Does anyone have any comments about this from either view point? In my biased opinion hunting and fishing are the two finest activities a person could become involved with.

I do both. In fact when I was having my dog trained north of Bakersfield I would hunt on the way up there and fish when I got there. Now I own a little section in Arizona, now I dove hunt or duck hunt during the morning and fish during the day. I agree that both hunting and fishing is the best. At least for me and my kids. We have a good time and share special moments. If only the inner city kids knew what they are missing. I dont think we would have so much gang violence and drug abuse. Thats my two cents.

I started fishing at age 11, I don't remember how I picked it up but I knew that I liked it and would do it for the rest of my life. I never got involved in hunting because my dad didn't do it nor any relatives.
I think that more people fish then hunt in socal because any youth could pick up a rod and reel and start fishing. But you need someone knowledgable with guns in order to start you off hunting. Compared to other parts of the country theres also not a whole lot of opportunities to hunt here.

The only huntin I do is FISH HUNTIN!!Of any kind. For me, I get alot more out of the hunt of the fish then the shooting of a bird or deer!!I just never really got into it!?!.Plucking feathers off a freash dead bird or dragin a warm dead deer to the truck was just not my thang!Now playin with little wild trout in tiny moutain creeks or wrestlin with fat golf course pond LM was more my style!! But hey, differnt strokes for differnt folkS!! Since I felt that first bite, Ive been strait fish HUNTIN ever since!!!I cant get enough to this day!and dont think I will,EVER!. :) Its one of those things you never grow out of..And you never grow to old to do.I love it!KEEP EM BENT!!!

I would'nt mind hunting in the same fashion i fish in.No rabbits and small game,just trophies.Maybe Bighorn sheep or Elk,but that's a hard opportunity to come by.

Maybe one day when i live in AZ :D

I wish I would rather fish than hunt. For hunting you need a spot to go, which is alot harder to find than a great fishing hole.

I do both. I enjoy upland game bird hunting a lot, but my passion is hunting fish. Whether it is the pursuit of Bass in a local pond or in a mountain stream stalking Trout, it's all hunting to me. The big difference is when I'm fish hunting I don't have to kill it. I do enjoy the occasional fish dinner and almost nothing beats a good Pheasant but Living in the SF bay area limits me to fish hunting mostly. Can't complain about that!

Both. Fishing I do for the pure enjoyment. Hunting, at least for the few years I lived in Alaska, was a means of putting meat on the table. I've noticed that since moving back down to California, I spend much more time with rod in hand than gun.

I do both. Lately, i've been focusing more on fishing with just a little hunting mixed in here and there. Mainly because my brother likes it so much and he's always trying to get me to go. I wish I had time to hunt more because I really enjoy it. The thing with hunting is that it's hard work. Everytime I drag a deer out of a canyon in 90+ degree heat, I swear to myself that i'll never do it again, but I always do.

Then there's the fact that hunting isn't a catch and release sport. I'd say the closest equivelant to a release is to not catch it in the first place. It feels pretty good to watch something in your crosshairs and not take the shot, knowing that you easily could.

I'm really fortunate that growing up I was exposed to fishing and hunting. Not only are these two hobbies fun, the enviroment alone makes it worthwhile to go. The fact that I hunt and fish has given me the oppurtunity to see some of the most awesome places in my area. Things that most city people don't even know exsist. Everything about me, from my job to my hobbies is outside and I couldn't imagine it any other way.
