1142, New baits

Tonight I went to WalMart to just check out the tacke aisle. I saw these plastics made by KINAMI. They look just like senkos and are just as soft. They price around 4.75, and had a few color selections. I also saw these new swim baits by Storm called wild eye. These things look great and have holographic finish. I purchased both, and will be at Newport in the morning to try them out. What does anyone think of fishing a senko at the bay? Either Drop shot or texposed and dead sticked?

I saw those Storm swimbaits at the Outdoor World in Florida. I wasn't too impressed with em myself. The finishes looked alright, but what I didn't like was that the eyeballs disappear if you look at them at an angle. You have to look at the eyeballs directly on, or else they disappear. Give em a try though, maybe those bay bass will like em. I bet senkos would work in the right conditions. If you could find a shallow grassy flat you could probably catch some bay bass on em.

Yeah I dont think that much detail is necessary for inshore bass'n and halibut fishing. Also, I didnt like the size of the shank for the leadheads they used, it sits a little high in the bait, I can't stand that!!!

Good point. I was lookin at em with a LMB perspective for sure. They'll probably do alright in the salt.

Senkos do work for spotties. And Brian had it, shallow grassy areas are the ticket. I use them in the summer at both Newport and Shelter. I like the red w/ black flake, 3/0 widegap, and no weight. Only problenm is that the spotties destroy the baits quick.

The Kinami "Flash" is the same as the Yamamoto "Senko". It's marketed by Gary Yamamoto's brother and they are identical. They are packaged into smaller quantities so the price per piece should be the same. The Kinami baits are being marketed to the larger distributors like Kmart and Walmart while the Yamamotos will stay in the smaller tackle shop venues.
Just FYI

Just a small correction to Ken's post. They are put out by Derek, Gary's son. They also have slightly less salt in them so they sink slower and are a little cheaper to manufacture. they will also have a couple of different colors than the Senko. Bass Pro Shops also carries them.
