adding RAMM to your machine, few things are so sweet. I just added 512mb to my 256mb. Smokin' for the basic stuff, and a noticable speed increase for Photoshop and Final Cut Pro. Too bad PC's can't take advantage of it like Macs can. It's even the same chip, PC133.
Why am I posting this? Because so far my wife could care less. Once she use Photoshop, she'll understand though. So I just had to tell someone. Plus, it really sped up the loading of these hallowed forums.

hehe... my machine is so old it doesn't even list the 512Mb sticks in the motherboard manual but... 256Mb of PC133 for $25 at Frys, can't beat it. BTW, I blew out my machine while I had it open... believe me, folks, you should do this once a year at LEAST! <<cough cough>>

Ed, I hear you. I understand that photoshop is the only application out there that will actually see better performance with over 512 megs of ram. I don't use it myself, but I always say the more ram the merrier. My current box is an Athalon 1600+ XP with 512 megs of PC2100 ram }> I've always thought it would be cool to have a gig of ram <grins>

Photoshop definitely showed the most improvement. I have one image that's 136mb. Took 2min. + just to open, then I added the new chip, 34sec. Big difference. Yet in Final Cut, the difference was only about a 25% speed increase for hefty renders. For the the short stuff it's maybe up 50%. Though navigating around w/in the app is now instant. I still want another 512 though. Then I can switch between video and image without quitting. This alone would save mucho time. Next step is to find a way to get another machine. Then Lisa and I won't have to fight for time with the thinking box. Maybe next year...
