Just wondering what line sizes and brands everyone uses.

my drop shot is 5lb sugui--i love that stuff
my swimbait is 25 lb maxima green for the big stuff
spinnerbait I use 15 lb maxima green

but the others i cant seem to find the right brand or sizes.

crankbait/jerkbait
C-rig
Flippin jigs
Flippin plastics

any ideas or help would be great.

Give some background on where you are fishing. A lot of the answers will stem from water clarity, depth you are fishing, cover, etc.

For example, I'll throw ripbaits on 16lb test most of the time if I can get away with it, but if the water is very clear, I'll go down to 12 or 14lb test. In some cases for pressured fish it may be worth it to go down to 10lb test.

The same is true for c-rig. I'll use 20lb floro leader most of the time for c-rig if I can get away with it, but as the water gets clearer I'll go down in size all the way down to 12lb.

I fish both San Diego, and northern california.

lakes such as shasta, clearlake, berryessa, folsom.

The delta is a whole other story, but the san diego lakes are definetly clear water.

Wow, Rob. It seems like the line you fish is considerably heavier than mine for most applications. Is it just a major confidence booster for you? I really feel pretty comfortable with fishing lighter line than most folks do. Don't get me wrong, when it comes to the swimbait it's 25 pound mono and and hammered drags, but sometimes I guess I just don't see the light when it comes to fishing heavy line. I suppose if you can get away with it, go for it, right?

Crankbait- 12 pound Izorline XXX. I usually throw cranks around alot of pretty gnarly stuff trying to get the reaction bites from the bait bouncing around and it holds up well. I know some guys who won't throw a crank on anything under 15 pound. Go figure.

Jerkbait- 10 pound Izorline XXX, 8 pound Izorline XXX if I'm throwing Pointer 78's or smaller baits.

Jig- 15 pound Izorline XXX, 12 pound Izorline XXX if I think I can get away with it.

Flipping- ??? I really do not do a whole lot of flipping aside from the jig, being in SoCal and all. The lakes I fish really don't call for a whole lot of the 20 or 25 pound mono or 50 pound braid and a full on 7'6" or 8' rod like the Delta or Clear Lake. I really want to do that type of fishing but there really aren't too many situations where I can.

One thing I do recommend is trying out the Izorline XXX. Really strong line that has really low memory. Another user of this board got me to try it out and now I have a bunch of spools of the stuff in my room.

CLEAR LAKE/DELTA calls for the heavy stuff! Shasta you can stay in the 10lb range usally

dropshot- 8 lb mono
Swimbait- 25 lb mono

...Never thought of myself as a light-line guy until I saw how you're dropshotting and carolina rigging.

Thanks for all the help, hey does that izorline come in green color. Everything I have heard recently is how much the pros use green line, they say almost every situation unless they throw braid.

I know that some of the other Izor products come in green, but I don't think the XXX does. It's more of a blue but not like electric highlighter blue or anything like that, more smoke colored. I really like the color of Ultragreen Maxima, but I seriously doubt it does anything more or less towards getting bites than the XXX does.

dropshotting is 6lb p-line, most others are 10lb p-line, topwater, spinnerbaits, cranks , and big trout baits is 20lb p-line.

i live in san diego pretty much my setup..

dropshot- 4lb maxima
plasics- 8lb maxima
swimbaits- 20 or 25 maxima depending on clarity
jigs- 10 lb maxima

pretty much all i fish.

Drop Shot- Sunline BMS 5# Most abrasion resistant 5# I have ever seen
Plastics- Depends on baits but mostly 8-12# P-line Flouro
Swimbaits- Sunline 25# Flouro and Izorline XXX 25#
Jigs- 12# P-line flouro or Sugoi 12-16 #

UL stuff (mini jigs, trout worms, spinners, spoons, roadrunners etc) - 2lb test cuda

Drop Shot- 6# Trilene XL

Plastics- 6# Trilene XL in open water, 12# Trilene Big Game in moderate to heavy cover.

Swimbaits - 20-25lb test but havent decided on the brand yet.

Jigs- Trilene Big Game havent decided the best line test rating to use yet.

Spinnerbaits and Crankbaits - no experience yet...

for my finnese stuff ..worms,dropshot etc...Its 10lb yo-zuri hybrid.
for cranks,spinnerbaits,litejigs etc..12lb McCoy mean green mono..
For my big swimbaits its 25lb mcCoy mean green mono..BUT..I have just discovered McCoys mean green braid I dont know how I like it JUST yet ...
For carp its 6lb yozuri hybrid....
