the best way, I've found, unfortunately requires you to sacrifice your tail...

ie, rip the tail off, and take your needle nose, and grip the middle of the nail, from the inside of the tail notch, and push the nails out that way...

Of course, if you don't have replacement tails, this isn't ideal.

I've been able to get the nails out on some occasions without doing the above by using a knife blade to catch the nail head and get it up enough to grab with a pair of dikes...you gotta be careful not to break/collapse the tail notch by pushing too hard and of course, ruining the wood by boring our a big hole around the head of the nail.

By far, removing the tail and then pushing the nail out from inside the notch works best...keep track of what nail came from what hole, because you want to put the nails back exactly as Mike built it originally..he modifies the nails per bait, from what I can tell.

bottom line, make sure you get some spare tails from Mike next time you place an order for some baits!
