My new 10" Triple Trout 'HEAVY'
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y158/JMAEdward/mytripple.jpg

I've been meaning to get one of these forever- every other time I went to pick one up, they'd be sold out before I even made into the tackle shop. For such a long time I heard these things were killer, especially at my home lake Diamond Valley. I especially wanted one this winter when I wasn't having any sucess on the Huddleston, but I eventually learned the power of the soft trout with how awesome it did for me this March.

I also opted for the 10" version. After long discussion's with people who are knowledgable on swimbaits and some suggestions from people on these boards, they all thought a larger swimbait would be better for Diamond Valley because of the high population of good sized trout -the theory is that the big girls in Diamond Valley are eating holdovers.

Anyway, i've never seen one in action for myself yet other than in video's and what not. I plan on testing myn out tommorrow or Wednesday morning out here on the local lake. I know some of you have testified to the greatness of the baits- so i'm looking for input and opinions from anyone that has thrown them before. What line do you prefer to throw these on, and what situations do you think they perform best in?

I think you'll be stoked on the action and the bait :) They fish great on 25lb. You could go down to 20 but you know really, the Triple Trout isn't a bait where the fish are getting a real good look at it before eating it so 25 will probably get bit just as good as 20.

Use a soft rod with the Triple Trout. Fish have a habit of hitting the Triple Trout, getting hooked for a split second and then coming off. You want some give in the tip to give the fish time to latch on to the bait and to keep the hooks in during the fight.

Awesome, that's exactly the type of info I was looking for. I already throw on a lighter than "standard" crucial just because I like it better. I sacrifice a little casting distance for the faster action I get out of it, but I still get the baits where they need to be.

I should have asked this initially, but how fast do these 10" Heavy Triple Trouts fall in comparison to the ROF system like on the Hudds?

I want to throw this thing tommorow A.M., and even though I planned on burning it pretty close to the surface, i'm anxious to know how fast it sinks. I probably won't get to throw in a pool while thier is still good light out today, and the area I want to try it out in is only 6-10' deep and has a rocky bottom with typically murky water. I'd hate to snag this thing up first time out.

It doesn't sink very fast. Maybe something like ROF4 if you want to rate it that way. It will hang up though if you hit the bottom with it so don't backlash casting it from shore :)

Thanks for the additional info Rob, gave me some good confidence in the triple trout this morning...

It worked too, first cast fooled a nice 5+, she hammered the thing on the surface because I was just burning it back really fast and waking it to get comfortable with casting it. I knew I might get hit "practicing" with the plug this morning, but not on the first cast!

Thanks again! I love swimbaiting!

I just got a 6 inch version of the Triple Trout. It feels kinda heavy to me as well (not a bad thing). I was curious if anyone knows what kind of material this bait is made out of? Doesn't feel like wood.

It's a composite material. Exactly what I don't know but in the industry you hear people talk about stuff like polyestrene or polywood. There is lead inside the bait too, which is probably what makes it feel heavy. That's also a reason they are so well balanced and swim straight at such high speeds.

SO it sounds like it is carved and not poured into a mold for consistancy. Interesting! I did a google search on polyestrene and found almost zilch. Plenty of info on polywood.
