2620, Question for curado experts
Posted by nemorino, Thu Oct-07-04 12:48 PM
I am having a problem with a curado reel. The cast control knob is either too loose or too tight. A quarter turn of it is the difference between a 1/2 oz weight dropping full speed or not dropping at all. I can't figure out if I need a new cast control knob. The metal disk inside of it seems to be okay.

My other reels are not so "touchy". This is my only/first curado and don't know if this is normal behaviour.

Do I need to send it for repair? If so where near Pomona can I take it?

To me, a 1/4 of a turn is huge! Most of my Curado adjustments are 1/8 turn or less. Especially my SF models. You can always take the brass disk out of the knob and turn it over if it has a dimple in it. Then add a small drop of oil to the disk.

By any chance is the spring missing? I lost the spring on one a few years back and it became very touchy. A 1/4 turn between no drop and full speed seems touchy for a 1/2 oz. After work I'll check my 2 Curados and post back Monday.
Tight lines,

Take off the cast control cap and inside you will find a brass shim. Pull it out and turn it over (you will see a small dimple in it) and reinstall. Also on the sideplate with access to the VBS (break weights) under that bearing is another felt washer that may also be dimpled, once again remove it and flip it over. This should take care of your problem.
