I'm not sure if this is really the right spot to post this but if I figured it couldnt hurt to put it here. I have been working on making some trout plugs for myself, to fish some of the musky waters in my areas (stocked trout are a common forage here in Illinois too). I just wanted som suggestions on ways to improve my current lures. Your all the experts so fire away

Awsome looking bait! I can't say it will be better but I would make the fins and tail out of plastic, to me yours look to be wood? I would be concerned about musky crunching them if they are wood. Anyhow very nice bait and keep up the good work.

PS experiment w/ single joints and doubles and also the lip angle you will get the most action w/ a lip that points stright down, after alot of testing I am sure you will find what works best for you. Be sure to post any pic's of your catches!

Thanks for the suggestions. Actually they are made of plastic. I use the same lexan material, only a thinner diameter, that I use for the lips. I cut them out and then sink them into a grove in the bait. You actually only see about 1/2 of the piece of plastic. The other portion is anchored into the bait. Once the 10 inches of ice gets off our waters here I'll hopefully be able to post up some pictures.
