2028, Hardbait ? (Swimbait)
Posted by Joe C, Thu Mar-31-05 12:55 PM
I looking into buying a hard swimbait and would like to ask a ? Which one would be the best buy? I have never fished one before and I don't want to spend $250.00 for a armageddon or anything that pricey something in the $50.00 range would be o.k theres the ac-plug the slammers and others. I guess what i'm looking for is a all around lure.Any suggestions?
Thanks Guys

9" Dark Trout Slammer. Probably the most productive hard bait ever.

The Slammer is the only way to go!!

I prefer the 12" Light Trout, but thats just me:) The 9" Dark Trout would be my next favorite....

Definately the best bang for your buck though!!

Well I took your advise and ordered a 9" slammer in dark trout. I saw they have some type of snap swivel on the nose are these recommended?Or can you tie directly to it.
Thanks

Joe don't tie directly to the bait use the snap it makes it easier to take on and off and you dont have to cut off the lure to put it away just un-snap.

You want to tie to the snap(a very strong, high-quality snap) that comes with it. With the lure clipped to the snap, the lure's 'natural' action is produced when working the lure in. If you tie directly to the lure's 'eye', it's action will be dampened.

Let us know if it's a floating or sinking and if you prefer either. I'm not sure what the consensus is on that subject......BassMan

I'm going to use the slammer for topwater ay night on canyon or Sag.Sounds like I'm leaveing the snap swivel on. O.K I got that straight do you think I should use a snap on a bait like the castaic soft body trout? The one I have does not seem to have that much action.I read that the more you throw them the softer they get is this true? I'd like to thank you guys for all the info you've givin out.

Joe

On a bait with a narrow line tie on the nose, like a castaic softbait trout or a generic live trout softbait, you can tie directly to the nose, but you do lose some action. I've been putting a #6 owner hyperwire split ring on the nose of baits like that to get more action. Just don't tie in the gap of the split ring, and cinch your knot down tight so it doesn't slide into the gap on accident.

Rubber baits do loosen up over time for sure. You'll find the more fish they catch, the more fish they catch :)

Joe
The Slammer comes with hooks, they are just photographed without them on Tackle Warehouse. If you are looking for replacement hooks for the 9" Slammer, I would go with 2/0 gamakatsu round bend bronze trebles for daytime fishing and 2/0 owners for night time.

I got my slammer today and this thing is SWEET I had no idea they were this nice. I replaced the hooks and put 2/0 owners on it. Can't wait to get this badboy to the lake.
Thanks for tips Guys
