You posted a while back about that under water camera from Harbor freight. I just wanted to know what you thought of it now after you have had it for a while.
Thanks
Matt

Matt:

The camera works well. If I had it to do over I would buy it again. The only time I was not satisfied was in 40’ when the visibility was two feet. I have spoken to people with expensive units and they had the same experience.

I do not have experience with other brands however I was at the bass pro shop in Vegas and they had the same set-up with two exceptions, the name was different and the price was double. It was called Sports Cam.

http://www.basspro.com/servlet/catalog.TextId?hvarTextId=42163&hvarDept=200&hvarEvent=&hvarClassCode=1&hvarSubCode=10&hvarTarget=browse

The way it was set up at BPS was, there was 4 cameras in the aquarium and the monitors were set up on a near by table. The Sports Cam was the cheapest unit on display and had a better picture than units that cost double. There was a monitor that had a slightly better picture but the price was in the high rent district. Obviously this demo was done in clear water.

Hope I have helped.

Hey Henry I have an Aquaview thats the same way. At LMV I could see maybe 4-6 feet at LMV. 60 feet was about 6" at best with the light on

Matt:

I checked the price on their site. The price is still a C-note.

It depends how clear the water is. I used the camera in the clear water at Perris in 30’ and could see forever. I tried the camera at Puddingstone when the clarity was 18 inches (at best) and 20’ deep was about the max. Even though the camera has a built in light that can be turned on from the monitor, if the water is dirty you just light up the sediment in the water. Kind of like driving in the fog and turning on the high beams, all you see is fog. In most applications 20’ is fine. Like I mentioned in an earlier post I have no remorse buying it. Heck $100 is cheep, one third the price of a GLX.
