1719, Swimbait Rods Help Posted by dockboy, Fri Jun-10-05 02:06 PM
I'm a new member but would lke to ask around for a couple of opinions on some rod choices. Due to their effectiveness & popularity, I would like a rod for throwing swimbaits. I'm probably going to fish w/ Hudds, Castiacs, Slammers, some of the wood baits. & some of the popular sunfish styles. What would be a good all-around rod, rated for anything from 2-8oz. I looked at the Diawa Heartland big-bait specials but are they worth it?

Use the calfishing "search" feature. Your exact question has been answered several times! 2-8 ozs is pretty spread out :o The Daiwa is not good for the really heavy weights. The most popular rod for your question is the Okuma.

You'll need the XH for 8 ozs. But I think that'll be too stiff for something as light as 2 ozs? Just curious what you plan on throwing that is 8 ozs?

I use a 7', 6" Kistler Helium Extra Heavy http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/descpageKISTCAST-KHCR.html rod for up to 4 ounces even thought they are only rated up to 2 ozs. It's holding up just fine and is lighter in weight than most other rods of that siize.
